Six things to check on your own homepage, in about 5 minutes.

Open your own site while you read this. Most of these take one line to fix.

The VAT number, on the homepage

Anybody with a partita IVA has to publish it on the site, and the rule names the homepage specifically. It comes from art. 35 of D.P.R. 633/1972, and the sanction reported by practitioners writing about it runs from 258.23 to 2,065.83 euro.

A footer counts. A contact page on its own does not, because the rule says where.

An online shop has to say more

Selling online adds the business name, the registered address, a fast way to reach a human, and the Registro Imprese or REA number, under art. 7 of D.Lgs. 70/2003.

A contact form on its own is not a fast way to reach a human. An address and a telephone number are.

Accept, reject and customise have to be equally easy to press. A large coloured Accept beside a small grey link is the exact pattern the Garante's cookie guidelines were written to stop.

Non-technical cookies stay off until somebody says yes, and a refusal is not a reason to ask again tomorrow.

The accessibility law probably does not apply to you

The European Accessibility Act reached Italy as D.Lgs. 82/2022 and started applying in June 2025, and a great many small businesses have been told since then that they must comply.

Microenterprises providing services are exempt: under 10 people and under 2 million euro of turnover. If that is you, the honest answer is that the law does not reach you, and anybody quoting you to fix it should have said so.

What to do with all this

Check the 4 above on your own site now. Then build the accessible version anyway if you sell to the public, because being readable on a bad screen with tired eyes is not a legal question.

This is where to look and not legal advice, and the person to confirm it with is your commercialista.

Questions worth asking

Where exactly does the VAT number have to go?

The homepage. Most sites put it in the footer, which appears on the homepage and everywhere else at once, and that is the simplest way to stop thinking about it.

Only if the site loads something that is not strictly necessary, which usually means analytics, embedded video or a chat widget. A site that loads none of those needs no banner, and a banner on a site that needs none is just a thing to click.

My site was built by somebody who has disappeared.

Then start with who holds the domain and the hosting, because everything above is unfixable until somebody can edit the pages. That is a different problem and a more urgent one.

Is an Albanian studio the right people to ask about Italian law?

For where to look, yes, and we have written the articles down so you can check us. For whether it applies to your business, ask your commercialista, who is the person who answers for it.
