Your customer searches from where they work, not where they live.

Tens of thousands of people leave Varese every morning and search for things while they are gone.

Near me means near the phone

A search engine answers a location query from where the device is standing. For somebody who lives in Varese and works in Milano or across the border, that is the wrong place for most of the day, and your business is not in the answer they get.

They are not lost customers. They are customers being shown somebody else while they are at their desk.

So the city has to be in the words

If your pages only ever say the trade, you depend on the phone supplying the place, and it will supply the wrong one. Pages that name the town, the neighbouring towns and the province get found by somebody searching from 60 kilometres away with every intention of driving home.

That is unglamorous work and it is most of the difference.

The hours on your listing are doing real work

A commuter cannot come at two in the afternoon. If your profile says you close at five they will not try, and if it is wrong because nobody has updated it since last year, you are turning away the exact people who could reach you.

Saturday hours, late evenings and whether you answer messages outside opening time decide more here than anywhere else.

The border adds a second currency of intent

A share of this province works in Switzerland and earns there. What they will pay for, and how far they will travel for it, is not what a model built on Italian averages predicts.

What we would check first

Whether your opening hours are true, whether the town names appear in your page text at all, and whether somebody can message you outside working hours and get an answer. None of those three costs anything.

Questions worth asking

How do I know if this is my problem?

Search your trade plus the town on a phone while you are somewhere else, and see whether you appear. Most owners have only ever searched from inside their own shop, where the answer always looks fine.

Should I target Milano as well?

Usually not. You would be competing with everybody in a much larger market for people who have no reason to come to you. Winning your own province and its commuters is a smaller and better fight.

Does this apply to Gallarate and Busto Arsizio?

Yes, and more sharply, because the airport adds a third pattern on top of the commuting one. The same work applies with different town names in it.

We already rank for the town. Is that enough?

It is a good start and it is not the whole province. Look at where your customers actually drive from, then check whether those places appear anywhere on your site.

What does the free audit cover?

What the site does well, where the gaps are, and what we would fix first in order. It arrives as a PDF and no meeting is required to get it.

Search for yourself from your office in another city and see what comes back. Send us the screenshot. Get a free audit.
